Get me to 500!!

Postby yavanna_21 on Sun May 03, 2009 4:26 pm

Okay, I just realized that my 1-year caching anniversary is on May 28th, a Thursday. I am at 421 caches right now, and I think it would be awesome to hit 500 on that day, or before. Too bad I don't have Friday off...

So that means I need 79 caches by that date...who wants to help? (If I wasn't stupid and had gone out with everyone yesterday, I would probably be there already!)

I really wanted to make one of the spooky tunnel caches my 500, but a closer tough cache would work just as well.

I'll be free Sunday the 10th, 17th and 24th, as well as Saturday the 23rd! I love not working at the J-Barn!

EDIT: Oops, the 24th is out, I'll be in Erie.

ANYONE UP FOR MEMORIAL DAY CACHING??

I would enjoy helping, of course. In theory, that is. Whether or not the logistics would work is a whole different question.

Rich is set on doing the Spooky Tunnell cache either May 30 or sometime later in the summer... I've tried to talk him into sooner, but... he's not budging. I might be interested in doing it sooner though, just 'cause the 30th is 4 days before Megan's due date, so I'm unlikely to be able to get away then. Of course, I'm guessing you wouldn't be ready for your 500th til close to then anyway?

Anyway... uh, the 10th Megan is on call, so I could only cache with a ride. 17th I think I would be unavailable. 23rd/24th... probably too close to the baby's arrival, but I can think about it when it gets closer. So yeah... in theory, it would be fun to help... but I don't know if it really is feasible. If someone from around here (Rich being the most likely) wanted to cache on the 10th and give me a ride, that would be the most likely option. Of course, that's also the Sunday before all my schoolwork is due, so... who knows. So... I'll stop rambling about my schedule. As you can see... I'm not sure how likely it is to work.

Red-I can't go anywhere that would be more than one day. It's just not logistically feasible right now.

I'm actually glad to hear that May 30th may be the tunnel...I can save my 500 for that! Maybe I can get 499 on May 28th, or whatever. It would be cool to do it on my anniversary, but I'd rather have a tunnel cache be #500.

Ian, lol, maybe we can figure something out for the 10th.

Yeah.. he was talking the 30th... I was trying to talk him into sooner. Most recently he's been talking about trying to do an event with talks about caching at Laurel Something-er-other State Park, later in the summer, and combining that with the Spooky Tunnel. He might still be up for the 30th tho. Dunno - I'd say to chat with him.

Memorial Day is the 25th? I have no idea... would depend on baby status.

I'm in the same situation as red. I'm hitting the ASP geobash, geowoodstock, and possibly the GC in Ohio fest so my May weekends are pretty locked up.

I was just going to ask if the fact that May 10 is Mother's Day has any bearing on caching plans for that day?

On a side note, the kind of logistical difficulties described in my post above may soon become a thing of the past for me for caching with any of you all. My leading job possibility at this point is the pastor position at a church in Kitanning, which would certainly make caching with BACON easier, and would probably transfer my logistical difficulties to caching with my friends from JAGA instead.

I'll be spending mother's day weekend with the wife and kids. I'm going to be out of town the following two weekends so I figured it was only right to spend this one with the family.

That's awesome news about a possible Kittanning move.

the other year i made plans to fish on mothers day without realizing it... once i caught the mistake we decided to stay home. the next day there was a photo in the paper of a guy holding a record setting huge fish standing in my usual fishing spot..

I have an idea...try to get as many caches as possible on weekend trips that are as yet unconfirmed, perhaps with princesstiki or Ivywood Gang, and then STAY THE NIGHT at my Uncle's house in Erie so that I can go caching on Memorial Day in Erie, and get SGL #109 as my 500th!

Carrie, do you think that caching on 5/10 is likely to work out? I know it's still early in the week, but I was just thinking about my weekend (trying to figure out whether to go to Geobash in the Hills Fri-Sat for one thing), and it may help me for my weekend planning to know if something's going on on Sunday. Should I see if Rich would be up for some caching, so I would have a ride? Let me know what you think...

Well, we'll see what happens. It's very early in my discussions with them, and I have promising leads in Somerset and South Jersey as well, but the Kittanning one seems both the most likely to become reality and the most interesting to Megan and I. It would be fun to be closer to you all - I really enjoy the kind of all day caching adventures you guys do, but making them happen around here just doesn't seem to work, except on event days. Of course, I don't have a sense yet of how much I"ll be able to get out with a new baby either though.

There are some great caches in Erie - some of the best ones that Megan and I have done. If you do end up going, I can give you a few suggestions of really good ones (as I'm sure others here can too).

My advice for Erie would simply be to cruise up to lake erie and cache right along it. Even an LPC is a pleasure when you have a great lake view to go with it.

SGL #109 is an excellent choice for a milestone. It was my 1k!

Ian-I have nothing planned for Sunday as of now and I'd love to go caching. I've emailed Fred (Ivywood Gang) and Jen (princesstiki) and have received no response. So I would love to cache if possible!

75 to go! And I'm hoping to go to Frick Park Wednesday or Thursday.
