Good Friday/Easter Vacation caching

Postby yavanna_21 on Sun Apr 05, 2009 6:59 pm

Anyone want to go caching on Good Friday? I figured more people have off that day. I have off the entire following week, as well, and I plan on going out as many days as possible!!

I will be away for the weekend but could be up for some caching during the day on Friday. Not sure how much I'll feel like driving, so the more easterly, the more likely I am to be excited about it. But who knows... I'm feeling very tired and lethargic today... might feel different then. I also could be up for some during the following week depending on when and what's going on... I think I can't really think that far ahead yet though.

Ian, where are you located? I need reminded...I'm up for driving near you on Friday. The actual weekend is out for me, but any of the weekdays will work. Red, maybe you can drive up for Friday.

Indiana would work great. It's only a 1/2 hour drive for me. I'm in Ebensburg.

I'm assuming this is ok - I will also cross-post this to the JAGA Facebook group... I don't know if any JAGA-ites would be free that day, but since Indiana isn't far from Johnstown/Altoona, I'm thinking it's possible some of them could be interested.

Dang, I just got an appointment to get my taxes done for Friday at 11am. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. My church is also having their annual fish fry and I feel obligated to work at it. But if there is caching to do I could change my mind. Maybe I can call and get a different day to have my taxes done. I would go caching in instead in a heartbeat. I wll let you know what I come up with.

An update about my schedule: Megan has reminded me that her next ultrasound appointment, which she would like me to come to, is this Friday morning in Johnstown. She thinks it's at 10 or 10:45. So I would be free to cache after the appointment + travel time to Indiana (45 min from Johnstown according to mapquest).

About the caching plans: I plugged Indiana's zip into GC to see what's there. Megan and I have found about half of the caches in Indiana so far... and I remember almost none of them as particularly exciting or noteworthy. We could still do Indiana; an alternative might be to go for the greater Blairsville area. According to mapquest it's maybe 20 minutes further from the Butler area, and alot of what's East of Blairsville are caches that sound like good ones that I've been wanting to do, and worthy of a Bacon caching adventure. To see the ones I mean, you could go to our Penn View Mt. cache and look at the ones surrounding that area. I would be fine with Indiana too though - caching is fun anywhere, especially with a group, so... whatever you all feel like doing is fine with me :). Just thought I'd throw this into discussion.

This is a reply from TheRichFather on the JAGA Facebook group:
I get off at noon, but I'm bringing fish sandwiches to the folks and possibly the brother-in-law and sister... so after 3 would be good.

Wierd, I was just in Blairsville Saturday and Indiana Wednesday and never go there...now I'm going back.

I told my husband where I was going and he got all ticked off that I was driving "so far." If I could ride with someone or RIDE someone, then it would be more purposeful, not that riding to cache is not purposeful. I'll go to Indiana or Blairsville, any time of day. It would be nice to sleep in a bit.

I have Friday off as well. May be heading up North to Mckean, Potter, and Cambria for some AGT's. The weather may be rainy, so may just keep it closer. Do you have certain caches you wanna hit or just out n about to wherever?
